I just read an extremely alarming news story that I’ll share with you in just a moment.

But before I do, I need to let you know one thing right up front.

By sharing this story, I am NOT trying to scare the living daylights out of you.

In fact, my purpose is quite the contrary (as you’ll see in my comments after the article).

Alright then, here’s the story…

Toxic Mold Destroys Homes

The toxic mold that is being talked by the home buying and selling community about, recent insurance and liability issues is Stachybotrys chartarum, (black mold or toxic mold). This slimy, greenish-black mold grows on moisture-laden materials that contain cellulose, such as wood, paper, drywall, and other similar products. It does not grow on tile or cement.

This mold has been in the news and some homeowners have burned down their homes, and everything in them, because they felt it was the only way to eradicate toxic mold from their surroundings. Juries have awarded huge sums of money to homeowners who initiated lawsuits against their insurance companies (for not paying for moisture-related repairs in time to prevent severe problems).

Problems caused:

Produces hazardous byproducts, called mycotoxins. While individuals with asthma and other respiratory problems may have reactions to many types of mold, it’s thought that mycotoxins are more likely to trigger health problems in even healthy individuals.

These toxins are believed to be linked to memory loss and to severe lung problems in infants and the elderly.

Floating particles of mold are invisible to the naked eye, so it’s impossible to see where they might have landed unless they begin to grow.

Loose mold particles that accumulate on items within a house are easily inhaled and can be a constant irritation to the people and pets that live there.

While toxic mold can definitely be a problem, in most instances its growth can be prevented or stopped before such drastic actions are necessary.

Ok…

After reading that article, and the comments about homeowners burning down their homes in order to get rid of toxic mold, one could certainly feel a bit uncomfortable.

But let me point out one very important fact in regards to these homeowners who had a mold problem so bad, they felt the only option was to burn their home to the ground.

It ain’t like the mold problem just popped up overnight.

These folks didn’t wake up one morning, only to find that their home was completely taken over by the stuff.

I can guarantee that there were many tell-tale signs of their black mold problem, long before the situation got this bad.

Since I don’t know any of these homeowners personally, I don’t know exactly what happened in their homes, but you can rest assured, knowing that YOU don’t have to deal with the same kind of nightmare.

Let’s take a look at the last sentence in that news article again. It reads as follows:

“While toxic mold can definitely be a problem, in most instances its growth can be prevented or stopped before such drastic actions are necessary”.

And that my friend is the key!

The sad truth is, even though black mold has now become one of America’s leading health concerns, many homeowners still have their heads buried in the sand and are completely oblivious to the whole issue.

And unless people wake up and smell the coffee, the situation is only gonna get worse.

So with that said…
